Paradise Found – Unique Luxury Beachfront Residences Unveiled in San José del Cabo
What happens when one of México’s most acclaimed architects is given access to prime real estate on a signature beach in the heart of San José del Cabo?.The result is 'Emma', a magnificent new property which boasts the most sought-after luxury beachfront residences in Los Cabos, the upscale resort area on the southernmost rim of the Baja California peninsula that’s legendary for its coastal vantages and awe-inspiring ocean vistas.
The Backstory
Alberto Vidal is a notable figure far beyond México. The esteemed architect was educated in the U.S. and México, and has won prestigious awards for his striking modernist designs on both sides of the border. Perhaps most famous for his work on high-rise buildings, Vidal’s masterpiece, however, is a sleek six-story structure framed by palm trees, gorgeous golden sand, and a horizon-stretching expanse of breathtaking ocean blue.
The Residences & Their Unique Appeal
Vidal’s vision was to use best-in-class materials to create one-of-a-kind luxury beachfront residences in the heart of San José del Cabo. But it isn’t just the top-of-the-line construction quality that makes Emma such a sought-after address. It’s the expansive size of the residences, their elegant appointments, world-class amenities, and unique level of privacy that truly put these living arrangements in a class by themselves. Despite its imposing six-story façade, Emma houses only 16 residences. The 3- and 4-bedroom layouts range from 3,830 to 4,122 square feet, and dwarf comparable luxury beachfront residences elsewhere in Los Cabos.
The Amenities
Few luxury beachfront residences in Los Cabos are large enough to encompass both an elegant foyer and onsite maid’s quarters, but Emma, of course, manages it in style, along with spacious state-of-the-art kitchens, expansive bedrooms, and over-sized family rooms notable both for their casual comfortability and exquisite design features. These residences, in fact, were built with families in mind, an objective evident in the building’s shared amenities, which include not only a capacious swimming pool featuring stunning ocean views, but also a game room, fitness facility, and onsite deli and bar. The latter may not seem family-friendly at first glance, but in addition to its evening cocktail ambiance, it’s also a handy repository for juices and sodas during daylight hours.
The Beach
The beach Emma inhabits is many miles long, and on its northeastern end, is notable for its collection of luxury hotels and resorts. More secluded and lightly traveled, meanwhile, is an adjoining stretch of golden sand known as Playa Las Palmas, which takes its name from the gently swaying palm trees that line its golden shores. Beyond this stretch is yet another, more southwesterly, beach area – dubbed Playa Costa Azul – that is perhaps the most famous in San José del Cabo due to its world-class surfing conditions.
Emma is located on the more serene Playa Las Palmas, and in addition to its swaying palms, this beach features spectacular Sea of Cortés views – that being the body of water (aka the Gulf of California) that merges with the Pacific Ocean off Los Cabos’ southern coast. This beach and its accompanying ocean views are Emma’s more notable natural features, and views of these breathtaking natural wonders inspired the positioning of layouts and living arrangements in Emma’s luxurious beachfront residences. Unusually, though, Emma residence’s not only showcase ocean-facing terraces, but offer city view terraces as well.
Playa Las Palmas is certainly the most exclusive section of the line of succeeding beaches that trace San José del Cabo picturesque coastline. What sets this beach apart, however, isn’t just its exclusivity and singular beauty, but also how easily its central location allows access to attractions and amenities along other parts of the shoreline. One can simply walk down the beach to enjoy fine dining in an array of restaurants hosted by five-star luxury resorts.
The Destination
San José del Cabo has been an international destination of note since the 16th century, when Manila launched galleons bound for Acapulco needed a place to stop for fresh water along the way, and pirates were invariably there to meet them. The city’s acclaimed freshwater estuary, once sought-after by Spanish galleons and patrolled by pirates, now doubles as a bird sanctuary, and lies just beyond pristine playa where Emma has only recently been constructed.
Decidedly less touristy than nearby Cabo San Lucas – the other Cabo included in the name Los Cabos, or "The Capes" – San José del Cabo is the regional leader in terms of fine dining, upscale shopping, and culture-based events. The most famous example of the latter is the city’s famed weekly Art Walk in its historic gallery district, where residents and tourists alike stroll iconic cobblestone-studded streets bounded by world-class art galleries and jewelry boutiques.
Emma, notably, offers a very rare kind of privacy, with the elemental luxury of its gorgeous beachfront setting strikingly contrasted with the city’s urban heart. The latter may seem a world away, but in fact it can be accessed in mere minutes – including San José del Cabo’s historic center, with its colorful traditional enchantments and fashionable shopping and dining districts.
This rare privacy also extends to San José del Cabo’s remote location on the southernmost rim of the Baja California peninsula. Nearly 800 miles from the U.S. border, Emma is in one sense a world away. But thanks to the proximity of the Los Cabos International Airport – only 20-minutes by car – U.S. citizens remain connected and conveniently close to family and friends.
The Opportunity
Only 16 luxury beachfront residences were made available at Emma, and despite the fact that these homes have only recently gone on the market, very few remain. That means purchasing opportunities are extremely limited.
