San Juanico is home to 1,000 or so residents with about 30% of those expatriates of the US and Canada, most of whom have relocated here for the infamous surf. The services that the town offers have grown exponentially over the past 5 years, especially now that there is a paved road all the way to Scorpion Bay from the south through the town of Las Barrancas. Now San Juanico has multiple restaurants that are open year round, there are a few more markets to choose from and there are more service-based stores for purified water, ice, medical, pharmacy, gasoline, auto repair, and hardware to name a few.

The Surf

Scorpion Bay is a legendary surf spot. It has been compared to other legendary point breaks such as Malibu, Rincon, and Jeffery’s Bay. When Scorpion Bay catches the right swell, few waves on Earth can match its form and length.

Due to the perfect shape and the incredible length of the waves at Scorpion Bay, surfers of all ages and skill levels can experience the ride of a lifetime. And because the 4 points are so uniquely different, there is a perfect setting for every surfer to excel.

Private Flights

Private flights usually land in Cd. Constitución, a 1.5 hours drive from San Juanico.

Commercial Flights

The closest commercial airport to Scorpion Bay is Loreto International Airport. Some direct flights from the US are available as well as local flights from Tijuana and La Paz (for around $300 a round trip).

Driving

The car rental companies at the Loreto airport are Alamo, Budget, Europcar, and Hertz. From the Loreto airport, the drive to Scorpion Bay is between 3 to 3.5 hours. The roads to Scorpion Bay are paved all the way now so there is no requirement to have an all-terrain vehicle.

Public Transportation

There is a bus service that is offered throughout Baja California Sur that makes regular pickups and drop offs at Scorpion Bay. The company is called Eco Baja Tours.
